November Spreads
Spreads we are currently working on are...
GREAT OUTDOORS-
OKLAHOMA-
COACHES FOR CANCER-
ELEMENTARY FALL SPREAD-
We are going to join up into groups of four. Each group will plan how to attach each spread.
What will the main story be about?
What will the questionnaire be?
What all angles will we cover?
What infographics will we need?
What photos will we need? Who will take them?
What illustration will we want at the top?
Present plans at end of class.

Emailing a Coach or Teacher
Sometimes you need to leave a note with a coach or teacher or send them an email to get into about a sport, event or activity. Here is a quick tip to help this go smoother.
The RIGHT way to ask for help (especially from a coach or teacher)
Hi Coach Jokowski,
My name is Bob Boberson, and I'm putting together the yearbook pages for
boys' soccer. If you don't mind, I'm hoping you can answer a few questions
for me so I can write the story and captions. I'll need this information
no later than Friday.
1. Which game during the regular season was the most memorable, and why?
2. What challenges did the team face this season?
3. Which players stood out as leaders on the team?
4. What goals did the team have going into the season, and how well did
the players meet them?
Thanks for your help.
Bob

Cartoon Effect
Creating a cool cartoon effect from a photograph is fun and easy. But sometimes you have to play around with a variety of FILTERS and EFFECTS to get it exactly the way you want it. The following is a GUIDE, not a step-by-step tutorial. Each one will require some creativity.
Try these effects to begin with to make the image look drawn and hand painted.
FILTER> ARTISTIC> CUT-OUT EFFECT
IMAGE>ADJUSTMENTS>POSTERIZE
Some times you need to paint color back ontop of the image.
1- create new layer.
2- set Layer Type to COLOR BURN or MULTIPLY.
3- with the BRUSH TOOL (B), paint in the color you want.
Stamp Benday Dots on the image can give that comic boook feel.
1- Open the benday dot pattern you want.
2- EDIT>DEFINE BRUSH PRESET
3- Select your new brush head and stamp the benday dots you want.
SAVE works in progress as PSD (PHOTOSHOP FORMAT). Always get a CARTOON EFFECT approved by Mr. Bollman before you finish.

A Picture Is Worth...
Northwestern knocks off No. 9 Nebraska
Notice how MSNBC chose to portray Northwestern's stunning upset over Nebraska. Instead of showing a batched play on the field, or hot-headed Husker coach Bo Pelini blowing his top, the photographer turned the camera towards the crowd.
Here we see two fans' total disbelief at what they see before them. One appears sick to his stomach. The other, dressed in a ridiculous corn costume, folds his arms in exasperation.
As winter sports approach, think about how you can catch the story.
Look at the photo, read enough of the article to understand the context, then right your own TITLE and CAPTION to the photo. Ad your caption as a COMMENT to this post.
