Managing Photos Using Iphoto

So you've taken some really good photos... you have them on a yearbook camera. NOW WHAT?

Uploading from a Yearbook camera to Iphoto
The first thing you have to do is move the images from the camera onto Iphoto, a safe place to store these images until we need to work with them.

Step 1- Fine the USB cord for the camera.  It will either be in the camera bag or in the closet.  Plug it into the camera and into the USB port on the back of the computer.  DO NOT USE THE USB PORT ON THE KEYBOARD.

Step2- Open Iphoto.

Step 3- Turn on the camera.  A dialog box will open on Iphoto asking if you want to upload the photos from the digital camera.  Click on YES.  Another dialog box will open asking if you want to upload a selection of photos or all photos.  Click ALL PHOTOS.

Step 4- Wait while the photos are uploaded off the camera.  This may take five minutes.  When complete, another dialog box will open asking if you want to KEEP or DELETE photos off of the camera.  If you are using a yearbook camera, ALWAYS SELECT DELETE.  This will clear off the camera for the next user.

Step 5- Label the folder in Iphoto.  For example- "Sully Basketball Game".

Step 6- Right click on the digital camera icon in Iphoto and select 'UNMOUNT'.  Now you may unplug and turn off the camera and return it to its bag.

Now your images have a safe home.  When you are ready to sort or edit your images, you will move a working copy out into a folder on your desktop.  That way you will ALWAYS have your original in Iphoto.
