Many schools require students to take a FORMAL yearbook photo their senior year. They require tuxedos and draped dresses. One student challenged this rule and it went all the way to U.S. District Court.

I think that the girl has a right to what she wants to dress like. But instead of excluding her from the senior page, they should of just taken out the whole thing. Maybe they should of done a photo of seniors wear what they want. I think the girl was right to complain about it, it's a free country.
ReplyDeleteWe all think that is very dumb that the school wouldn't let her wear the tuxedo in her senior pictures. We think it violates many of her rights.

ReplyDeleteI think that you should be able to have what ever kind of picture you want for you senior pic as long as it is clothed. I think that the complaint is a little off base i mean if your a boy your not gonna wear a dress so why not just go along with what your supposed to do. In conclusion North Mahaska rocks this school in miss. sucks
ReplyDeleteI think it was her right to wear whatever the heck she wants. She wasn't breaking any laws, rules or school policies so they shouldn't be able to be taken out. I'm really surprised they lost this case because of the simple fact that she didn't do anything. A yearbook is a book of history, an art. Therefore its a freedom of speech.
ReplyDeleteI think its wrong to tell someone who is genderly challenged to dress the formal and traditional ways. It doesn't violate her rights as a citizen but it does make the school look bad when they enforce a rule as communist as that. I rest my case. KA MEH HA MEH HAAAAAAAAA
ReplyDeleteI think that homosexual people shouldn't be able to do that. i think that gay marrage should be illeagle it is gross. they shouldn't be able to go to prom together and get pictures like that. It's just gross seeing that kind of stuff. It's supose to be a man and a woman not a man with a man or a woman with a woman.
ReplyDeleteI like to wear stuff I want. If someone I would like to do something about it but I don't care enough to go do it. But good for her that she did it
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with how she wants to live (being gay) but i don't think she should be forced to wear something she doesn't want to. Like someone said above, we wouldn't make a guy wear a dress so why should we make a girl wear a dress if she doesn't want to.
ReplyDeleteI think if you're a girl and you want to go to prom in a tux then you should be able to. They should let her be in the yearbook, it's not inappropriate, so she should be able to have her pic in the yearbook.
ReplyDeleteI personally believe that no human being is the same or thinks the same. So why should they have to dress the same? It doesn't make their personality different whether or not they wear a dress or tux, skinny jeans or mini skirts, everyone is human and everyone has feelings. And this school definitely did the wrong thing in forgetting to consider hers.
ReplyDeleteDiscriminating someone and removing their photo from the yearbook because they are dressing "opposite" of their gender is really unlawful, as is calling a black person the "n" word, or making fun of someone with red hair. Anyone should be able to dress the way they want to, and be happy. It sounds like a bad school, and they need to review constitutional rights before they say she "had no constitutional rights" to dress that way in HER senior picture.
